About Adrian

A valued Director of the company and 20-year veteran in insurance and accident compensation, Adrian has held a number of senior consulting and corporate roles, with a focus on long tail bodily injury classes.

Since joining the company in 2000, Adrian has earned the respect of his clients as an actuary who combines rigorous analysis with a pragmatic approach. He is skilled in managing competing stakeholder interests where objectivity of advice is important.

Adrian specialises in complex accident compensation schemes and liabilities.  One of his significant achievements was assisting medical indemnity insurer UMP in its transition from provisional liquidation in 2002 to successful ongoing business and merger in 2007 to form the Avant Group.

Experience

Adrian has been providing actuarial advice in all aspects of insurance and accident compensation, both as a consultant and as an in-house actuary.

Adrian was a partner at Coopers & Lybrand from 1992 to 1997, where he was jointly responsible for leading the Sydney general insurance practice, and prior to that he was a consultant in Australia, the UK and Ireland.

Since joining Taylor Fry in 2000, Adrian has advised several major accident compensation schemes, government authorities and private sector insurers.

Accident Compensation Schemes

  • The NSW Motor Accidents Authority – Adrian has provided advice on monitoring of claims experience, valuation of outstanding liabilities, Scheme risk premiums, insurer profitability, review of insurers’ premium rate filings, costing of legislative amendments and other policy advice.
  • Insurance Commission of Western Australia – Adrian has advised the Commission in relation to the RiskCover Fund, which is the self-insurance vehicle for WA Government risks including workers’ compensation, general liability, medical malpractice and professional indemnity.

Financial Condition Reports and Insurance Liability Valuations

  • Avant Insurance – Appointed Actuary from 2002 to 2011.  Adrian was originally appointed by the provisional liquidator of the medical indemnity mutual insurer UMP Group, which was a predecessor organisation of Avant.  Adrian was heavily involved throughout the organisation’s transformation from the crisis of provisional liquidation, emergence from provisional liquidation in 2003, progressive recapitalisation and a successful merger in 2007 to form the Avant Group.
  • NSW Treasury and Self-Insurance Corporation – Adrian’s advice includes peer reviews of liability valuations for the NSW Treasury Managed Fund
  • Allianz Australia – As Senior Actuary from 1999 to 2000, Adrian advised on the valuation of insurance liabilities for all classes of business, budgeting, analysis and monitoring of profitability.
  • CGU Australia – Adrian was Senior Actuary in Australia from 1997 to 1999, initially with NZI which merged with Commercial Union.  He advised on the valuation of insurance liabilities, analysis and monitoring of profitability, other internal reporting and acted as a director of certain subsidiary companies in the group.
