About Josh

Since joining Taylor Fry in 2012, Josh has worked on a variety of actuarial and analytics projects ranging from traditional actuarial valuations through to demand elasticity modelling and data visualisation. Prior to joining Taylor Fry Josh was part of the personal insurance pricing team at Suncorp group where he worked on natural hazard pricing for home personal lines and developed and streamlined processes for data extraction and analysis.

Josh has a keen interest in statistical analysis and modelling and seeks to provide high quality analysis in an accessible format for clients.


Since joining Taylor Fry Josh has been involved in the following areas:

Price Optimisation and Modelling

Josh has worked on a range of projects involving the development and assessment of demand elasticity models for use in personal lines portfolio optimisation, as well as the assessment of alternative pricing strategies on portfolio profit and policyholder retention. He has also assisted in the development of a large insurer’s internal modelling capabilities and helped to develop streamlined processes for the implementation of predictive models in a production environment.

Insurance Liability Valuation

Josh has worked on the insurance liability valuations for commercial and workers’ compensation portfolios, covering a wide range of short- and long-tail classes. These have included valuations of dust disease liabilities as well as impact analysis of scheme reforms for workers’ compensation. He has also worked on Financial Condition Reports and conducted capital impact analysis for potential new policies and products.

Data Visualisation and Monitoring

Josh has aided in the development of Taylor Fry’s data visualisation and portfolio monitoring platform for general and self-insurers. He has also developed visualisations for specific client projects he has been involved in to enhance understanding of the data and model results.

Barometer Survey

Josh has been involved in the J.P. Morgan Taylor Fry Barometer survey of the general insurance industry since 2012. The survey covers general insurers, reinsurers and brokers, and provides a detailed overview of the current state of the Australian general insurance industry and the industry’s expectations.
